bridgestone irish food guide 2012
Claire Mc Gowan is a great restaurateur, and the Beach House is a great restaurant. It is great because it feels right, because the food feels right, because the room seems to act like a tabula rasa: ready to be whatever you want it to be, whether that is a bowl of soup and a sandwich at lunchtime or a blowout special with a bunch of friends on a Friday evening. We can explain this effect by saying simply that Ms Mc Gowan's focus is entirely on her customer - she is one of the new generation of hosts who are transforming the traditional reputation of Donegal. Peter Cheesman's cooking is right on the money: a tasting plate of local crab; deep fried St Tola's goats cheese and beetroot ice cream; Greencastle cod with freshwater prawns; Donegal fillet steak with red wine jus; Beach House snowball. The winelist is superb, service is understated and polite and value for money is excellent.
TRIPADVISOR We are proud to be listed in the top 3 restaurants in Donegal on tripadvisor - check out our tripadvisor reviews by clicking here!
PHIL COULTER We are delighted to be one of Phil Coulter's favourite restaurants. Check out what Phil had to say about us here!
LONELY PLANET IRELAND We have been listed as the number one place to visit in Buncrana by Lonely Planet. This is what they have to say about us......With plate glass windows facing the Lough, the location here couldn't be better. The dining room projects an elegant simplicity that complements the contemporary Irish cuisine. Service is friendly & attentive.
TIMEOUT 2011 Follow the signs for the pier & you will come accross the aptly named Beach House. The bright and airy interior - all natural tones - and stylish contemporary decor does indeed exude beach house chic. A picture window on the mezzanine looks out accross Lough Swilly to the Fanad peninsula. The impecably prepared food (dry aged Donegal beef, local seafood, organic vegetables) reflects the uncontrived naturallness of the restaurant. One of the best places to eat in the Northern peninsulas.
